summer, republican governor rick snyder of michigan signed a bill to expand the use of telemedicine in his state. his new law requires that insurance companies have to pay for treatment that you get via contact with a doctor through like a web cam or otherwise online. it's telemedicine. governor snyder was so excited to sign this thing. he said at the time, "telemedicine offers an incredible opportunity to easily provide health care to michigan's elderly, disabled, and rural communities. i applaud the legislature's initiative to use technology to save lives." the bill got unanimous support. governor snyder signed it with his big happy statement about how awesome this was going to be. he was so excited. yay, telemedicine. telemedicine, you are the future for michigan. you are saving lives. that was this summer. tonight that same governor snyder is poised to sign another law in michigan that would ban the use of telemedicine in that state, specifically for one type of medical care. it's the same type of medical care provided at clinics in michigan that governor snyder is poised to sin

. controversial right-to-work measures will soon be the law of the land in michigan. republican governor rick snider signed the law despite wide protests at the capitol. the law will make it illegal for a union employee to pay union dues as a condition of their employment. >> let's explain that. just for half a second. then we'll go on. right to work, what does it mean? people ask me, what does it mean? it means unions can force somebody to pay them if they want to get a job in the state of michigan. >> well, what it means is, if you get a job, the union extracts money from your paycheck for the dues for union dues. >> well, yeah. >> automatically. >> automatically. >> you've got no choice. oh, you want to work here? well, you've got to pay us. >> right. >> what if i don't want to pay you? what if i don't want to support the candidates you support? what if they're the antithesis of my values? too bad. and so i've never understood this. >> governor snider says it was the unions who started the fight in the first place. by trying to add collective bargaining rights in the state's constitution.

on northern michigan. and that is not all. the system will also cause headaches we're told in other parts of the nation. who will get what when? meteorologist janice dean standing by live in the fox weather center. jd, what is the story? >> the story is a blizzard and it will affect millions upon millions of people. want to make sure my weather map works. it does. let's move in. i will though show you where we'll see rain and snow. this storm has not gotten its act together yet. we're seeing a foot or more of snow but we're starting to see this thing crank up. you see the rain across the nation's heartland? there is the snow. but the wind will be the major problem. see the red-shaded area? those are blizzard warnings, meaning we'll see heavy snow, gustings of over 50 miles an hour. that will cause blowing snow. what will that do? it will cripple, cripple travel across the upper midwest across the next 24 to 36 hours as the storm moves eastward. show you the wind gusts, dark shaded blue, those are wind gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour moving through kansas city, des moines and towards c

's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new york city could get as high as 60 miles per hour. the worst of it coming in the next three hours. so keep that in mind as you're driving on the roads or doing anything outdoors. as far as snowfall goes, over the next 24 to 48 hours, we're going to get lake-effect bands. we're also going to see snow on the backside of this big storm. western new york will get a good coating of snow between three to six inches in most locations. so the forecast over the next three days, today's the worst travel day by far, great lakes and the northeast. thankfully as we go through the weekend, it's a little chilly across the country, but the weathe
